What is ERP software?

Enterprise resource planning software connects the records and workflows that different departments share. A customer order is more than a sales record: it can reserve stock, create a purchasing requirement, generate an invoice, and affect cash flow. An ERP keeps those steps connected so teams can trace a transaction through the business.

For a small or mid-sized business, the decision is usually about operational complexity rather than headcount alone. A team with warehouses, production, trade accounts, or several sales channels may need connected operations earlier than a larger business with a simpler process. Start with the work that is difficult to control today, then evaluate the system against that work.

Start with the modules your operation needs

Tellency covers the core departments below. Use a demonstration to confirm the exact workflow, permissions, reporting, and configuration included in your proposal. A module name by itself is not evidence that a system handles your exceptions.

  • Finance: accounting records, customer and supplier balances, cash flow, and reporting.
  • Sales and CRM: leads, opportunities, quotations, customer accounts, and orders.
  • Inventory and procurement: products, purchasing, suppliers, stock movements, and locations.
  • Manufacturing: materials, bills of materials, production planning, and quality workflows.
  • People and retail: employee records, attendance, payroll requirements, counters, and commerce workflows.

Test one complete order-to-cash workflow

Ask vendors to follow one realistic transaction rather than presenting unrelated screens. Start with an opportunity, prepare a quotation, confirm the order, fulfil it, invoice the customer, and record the payment. Check how amendments, partial deliveries, returns, and overdue balances are handled.

Then ask each team to show its view of that same transaction. Sales should understand the customer commitment; operations should understand the delivery requirement; finance should be able to reconcile the balance. Export a sample report and inspect the underlying record links. This is a more useful fit test than comparing feature counts.

Cloud ERP or self-hosted ERP?

Tellency offers managed cloud and deployment on your own infrastructure. A dedicated environment is configured around your processes. Discuss who maintains the application, applies updates, manages backups, monitors availability, and restores the system after an incident.

Deployment choice affects responsibility as well as cost. For managed cloud, document the hosting region, backup retention, support coverage, and data export process. For self-hosting, document infrastructure requirements, upgrade ownership, and the technical skills your team needs. Confirm the agreed arrangements in writing rather than assuming a deployment label answers them.

How to compare ERP software costs

Tellency platform pricing starts at $79 USD per user per month. Your proposal confirms the included modules, user requirements, implementation scope, deployment, support, and AI usage charges. Use the actual proposed user count and configuration when comparing options.

Budget for migration, integrations, configuration, training, and the time your own team spends validating the system. A low subscription price can still produce an expensive implementation if the data is poorly prepared or the scope is unclear. Compare the first year and the continuing annual cost separately.

  • Request a written breakdown of subscription and one-time implementation costs.
  • Identify which existing subscriptions can actually be retired.
  • Define acceptance criteria and reconcile opening balances before go-live.
  • Agree the cost of additional locations, users, integrations, and change requests.

Evaluating ERP in the US and Canada

US and Canadian teams should document their entity structure, operating currencies, tax workflows, payroll scope, and reporting obligations before selecting a system. Bring sample invoices, purchase orders, stock reports, and month-end outputs into discovery. Confirm jurisdiction-specific requirements with your finance advisers and the implementation team.

Tellency’s regional pages provide a starting point for that evaluation. Product fit and local requirements should be demonstrated against your actual operation; a city or country page is not a substitute for a scoped implementation.

Questions to ask before you choose

Is Tellency ERP suitable for a small business?

It can suit a growing business that needs finance and operations connected. If you need only bookkeeping or a simple contact list, compare those narrower tools too. Use your workflow complexity, implementation capacity, and total cost to decide.

Does ERP include CRM?

Tellency includes sales and CRM alongside its operational modules. CRM manages customer relationships and opportunities; ERP connects the resulting work to inventory, purchasing, production, and finance.

How long does ERP implementation take?

Tellency typically plans around an eight-week implementation, with the actual schedule agreed after discovery. Data readiness, integrations, configuration, and validation determine the timeline.

Can we bring data from another system?

Migration is scoped during discovery. Agree which master records, opening balances, open transactions, and historical information are required, then validate the mapping and reconciliations before switching.
