A job moves through proofing, plates or digital prepress, one or more presses, then cutting, folding, binding, laminating or mounting, sometimes with an outsourced step in between. Paper is bought by the carton or the skid and consumed by the sheet. Wide-format media is bought by the roll and consumed by the linear foot. Ink is bought by the litre or the cartridge. Printed goods are taxable in most US states and Canadian provinces, with exemptions for resale and for certain printed materials that vary by jurisdiction, and Canadian printers charge GST/HST/PST/QST by place of supply. Tellency applies the right treatment per line and per customer, stores exemption certificates, and produces the returns from the ledger.
