ERP and implementation choices
Tellency vs ERPNext: ERP, POS & Operations
An ERPNext alternative should be evaluated on the operating model and support you want as well as the feature list. Compare configured ERP workflows, deployment responsibilities and the evidence your team will use to accept the system.

| What to evaluate | Tellency | ERPNext |
|---|---|---|
| Retail connection | Retail POS connects to Tellency inventory, procurement, customer balances and finance. | ERPNext documents POS integration with inventory and accounting, including session-related posting behaviour. |
| Stock and accounting | Demonstrate the configured receipt, transfer, sale and accounting results. | ERPNext documents perpetual inventory and account mapping for stock transactions. |
| AI operations | Tellency supports permission-scoped actions across exposed business modules. | Ask the implementation team to identify the AI and automation components included in the ERPNext proposal. |
| Ownership | Managed cloud or self-hosted deployment, with implementation and support responsibilities agreed. | Define who owns ERPNext hosting, extensions, upgrades, testing and support in the selected arrangement. |
Do not turn the choice into a licence slogan
A licence model does not by itself describe implementation effort, support or operating risk. Ask for the same transaction scope, environments, user roles and ongoing responsibilities from both teams. Compare the resulting proposals rather than assuming either route eliminates maintenance.
Follow the stock-to-ledger timing
Post a receipt, sell an item and close the retail session. Verify when stock and accounting records change. ERPNext documentation describes configuration-dependent POS posting behaviour; understand that timing before comparing it with Tellency’s proposed process.
Evaluate the people who will run the system
Assign responsibility for product setup, access, backups, extensions and release testing. Identify which work stays with your team and which is covered by the implementation provider. Include the response route for a failed order or a reporting discrepancy.
Use a permission test for automation
Demonstrate a supported Tellency agent request and inspect its execution record. Test a request outside the role’s authority. Ask for the corresponding automation design in ERPNext, including any additional components and the person responsible for maintaining them.
Plan a small but complete acceptance pack
Use customers, suppliers, stock, open orders and financial balances from a representative business scenario. Include a correction and a failed integration. A system that passes only the normal path has not yet demonstrated how your team will handle daily exceptions.
Questions before you choose
Does ERPNext have a POS?
Yes. ERPNext’s official documentation describes POS workflows connected to inventory and accounting.
Should implementation and support be compared separately from the software?
Yes. Identify hosting, configuration, migration, custom work, upgrades, testing and support responsibilities in each proposal.
