Accounting to ERP
Tellency vs TallyPrime: ERP Alternative Guide
Tellency is a TallyPrime alternative for businesses evaluating connected customer, stock, purchasing and financial workflows. Start by identifying where the current process breaks down; a larger application list is useful only if it resolves those handoffs.

| What to evaluate | Tellency | TallyPrime |
|---|---|---|
| Accounting and stock | Finance connects to sales, purchasing, inventory and other configured ERP modules. | TallyPrime documents bookkeeping, inventory, payroll and regional tax capabilities. |
| Customer operations | Lead qualification, conversion, opportunities, quotations and sales documents sit alongside operations. | Map how the chosen TallyPrime configuration handles the customer process and any surrounding systems. |
| Commerce channels | Retail POS and branded online-store/app workflows can be evaluated against the same back office. | Identify the retail, ecommerce and integration components required in the Tally-based proposal. |
| Data transition | Agree sample exports, mappings, opening balances and reconciliation before committing to cutover. | Record the source ledgers, stock locations, outstanding balances and history you need to retain. |
Separate a reporting issue from a process issue
List the recurring work around your accounting system: maintaining customer records, checking branch stock, collecting orders and preparing reports. Identify which tasks happen twice and which exceptions require a spreadsheet. This creates a practical reason for considering ERP.
Use a purchase-to-payment example
Take one supplier order through receiving, invoice and payment. Include a partial receipt and an outstanding amount. In the proposed Tellency setup, inspect the source document, stock movement and payable balance. Ask for equivalent evidence from the Tally configuration and any connected tools.
Treat Tally inventory as a real capability
TallyPrime includes inventory features, so an evaluation should go deeper than “accounting versus inventory”. Compare the location structure, stock controls, reporting and operational handoffs you require. The question is whether the configured process fits your business, not whether a product has a stock screen.
Prepare the finance reconciliation early
Map ledgers, customers, suppliers, stock items and units. Decide how to handle opening receivables, payables, bank positions and inventory values. Reconcile the trial balance and subledgers after a trial migration, then have the responsible finance owner sign off differences.
Include the jurisdiction and ongoing ownership
UAE, Saudi, Indian, Canadian and US requirements are not interchangeable. Agree the applicable outputs and adviser review for each operating entity. The proposal should also identify configuration, hosting, training, integrations, update ownership and support.
Questions before you choose
Does TallyPrime include inventory?
Yes. TallyPrime documents accounting with inventory. Compare the exact controls, locations and connected workflows instead of treating it as bookkeeping alone.
Can Tellency replace a Tally-based setup?
Potentially, after a fit assessment and trial data migration. Agree modules, retained history, integrations and financial reconciliation in the scope.
